Vale of Glamorgan is a county borough bordering Bridgend, Cardiff and Rhondda Cynon Taf, and including the towns of Barry, Penarth, Llantwit Major and Cowbridge.

Vale of Glamorgan is one of five local authorities in the Central South Consortium Joint Education Service.

The school population numbers just over 21,000 and the authority is responsible for 53 schools.

There are 44 primary schools with an average size of 280, ranging from Llancarfan Primary School with 58 pupils to Romilly Primary School with nearly 700 pupils.

There are seven secondary schools, of which all except one have a sixth form. The average size of the secondary schools is 1055 pupils. 

There is one through school in Vale of Glamorgan.

There is one special school which has post-16 provision.

Out of the 44 primary schools, six are Welsh medium. None of the secondary schools are Welsh medium but the through school Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg is Welsh medium.
